Competition - Fiction

My Name is Baghdad

By Caru Alves De Souza

Baghdad is 17 years old and lives in one of São Paulo’s working-class neighbourhoods, surrounded by whimsical and wildly endearing women. Short hair, lightning-fast, and a big mouth, she runs away on her skateboard followed by a gang of boys she bosses around. Caru Alves de Souza, winner of an award at the Berlinale, has created a film in the image of her protagonist: free, effervescent and full of rhythm.
