Beyond the Wall

By Vahid Jalilvand

Leila, a young woman on the run, is hiding in the flat of Ali, a visually-impaired man. The two strangers, like wounded animals, begin to befriend each other in this gripping huis-clos. The relationship that the characters develop also becomes a refuge where their past, fragmented between fantasy and reality, is gradually revealed. Presented in competition at the Venice Film Festival, "Beyond the Wall" embarks on a cinematic tour de force that is nothing short of a powerful allegory about the police state and freedom.
