Human rights, victims of the humiliation society
Humiliation devalues, disregards and challenges the individual's right to be and to live, without any justification. In our society today, it is a component of the human condition. Humiliation is "the new poison of our society" according to the French philosopher Olivier Abel. It affects all domains, from the intimate to the history of peoples. It represents a specific and often traumatic means of exercising power, both social and political: humiliation can, not only, be a tool to break victims, but also the primary cause of violations of their rights. Fighting for human rights is therefore also fighting against a society that sets up humiliation as an instrument used within the context of human and political relations.
