In 2018, while travelling to Chile, Iranian director Amir Reza Koohestani was arrested and sent back to Tehran by the border police at Munich airport. The reason for the sanction? He had overstayed his welcome in the Schengen area by five days. Inspired by this misadventure, Deported features an actor - Amir's alter ego - who, during his incarceration at the airport, reads Anna Seghers' novel Transit in preparation for a stage adaptation. The cosmopolitan and polyglot cast loads the transit space with a triumphant combination of trajectories, languages and temporalities.
