Hong Kong: China challenged
Discussion to follow in livestream on fifdh.org
In January 2020, Beijing banned Human Rights Watch Executive Director Kenneth Roth from entering Hong Kong. He had come to present the organization's 2020 annual report, entitled "China's Global Threat to Human Rights". HRW believes that the Chinese government is engaged in the most intense offensive against the global human rights system in decades. Kenneth Roth will speak with journalist Junko Terao, Asia editor of the Italian news magazine Internazionale, about the consequences of this offensive, exacerbated by the mobilization of the people of Hong Kong.
Hong Kong's New Heroes, by Floris-Jan van Luyn, tracks, through the demonstrators' experience, the struggle for freedom of the people of Hong Kong, both young and old.

Hong Kong’s New Heroes
By Floris-Jan Van Luyn
For the past 10 months, the students in Hong Kong have been out on the streets, day after day, night after night. Now familiar with violence, they know the smell of tear gas well. Neighbourhoods have been transformed into battlefields, up against a police force which does not shrink away from using violence - a great deal of violence. Who are these young people fighting against an authoritarian power? The Dutch filmmaker and journalist Floris-Jan van Luyn, who knows the region like the back of his hand, feels the pulse of the city and offers us rarely seen, virtually raw footage.
