In the Innu community of Uashat in Quebec, Mikuan and Shaniss, 17, are best friends, in life and in death. Their relationship breaks down when Shaniss becomes a mother and quits high school, while Mikuan falls madly in love with a "white man" and decides to leave to study in the city. Adapted from the eponymous novel by Innu novelist Naomi Fontaine, and co-written by her, this insightful film plunges us into a universe that is both lifelike and poetic, and into a world of youth that, like everywhere else, is made up of nights out, endless text messages, outrageous escapades, bursts of laughter... and an identity, or several, to be discovered.
