The Festival spreads throughout the city

Conceived as an antidote to the pejorative representation of the African-American community by the mainstream media, the work of the Los Angeles-based artist, who has also directed videos for Kendrick Lamar and Beyoncé, concentrates the multiple facets of Black life in the United States between original images and news clips. A radical work previously shown at the 2018 Biennale de l'Image en Mouvement and the 2019 Venice Bienniale, and presented here in a specially revised version.

What if, in a slow process of evolution, humanity became but one body with its environment? A sensory body, capable of perceiving the invisible, of communicating with the species that share its existence and of tuning its heartbeat to the rhythm of plants and animals? Conceived by a powerful sound artist, this work situates the body in a holistic era in which everyone is capable of vibrating with the world through sensitive listening to living beings.

Each year, on the occasion of International Women's Rights Day on 8 March, the City of Geneva and its partners address a theme by analysing it from the perspective of gender and equality: la Semaine de l’Égalité. The 2021 programme, devised in digital form, invites us to question the supposed neutrality of public space, to probe the differentiated uses of the city, and to explore the avenues for action to build an open, accessible and welcoming city, in which each person feels serene and legitimate. This programme is accompanied by a bibliography.

This theme is part of the action plan "Objective zero sexism in my city", adopted in 2019 by the City Council, and develops its reflections.

Geneva artist Laure Marville presents a large-scale installation created especially for this event, consisting of an entirely hand-printed linocut wallpaper, mixing texts and figurative or ornamental patterns. Functioning like a mind map, the different elements represented serve the artist's most cherished commitments: freedom of access to knowledge or the emancipation of women's voices.

The International Women in Photo Association supports women photographers of all origins and nationalities, and defends parity and equality through photography. Its annual prize, the IWPA award, is this year the subject of an exhibition created in collaboration with the Alliance française of Geneva and the WRP Foundation. The winner of the IWPA 2020 Award, Mara Sánchez Renero (Mexico), as well as the eight finalists, will show pieces that highlight social, cultural and personal issues.

As part of the 80th anniversary of Charlie Chaplin’s The Dictator, Chaplin's World is presenting an unprecedented temporary exhibition that explores the historical context in which Chaplin made one of the most courageous films in the history of cinema. Archive documents, unpublished excerpts and production secrets also provide insight into why this film remains incredibly relevant today.
