Democracy, a Tunisian disillusion
Tunisia's ten years of democracy have coincided with a deterioration in the living conditions of the Tunisian people. Imposed by President Kaïs Saïed, the state of emergency in force effectively gives him more power than the autocrat Ben Ali ever had during his 23-year reign, which ended in January 2011. When the international community asks Kaïs Saïed to return quickly to the Constitution adopted in 2014, Tunisians retort that the elected representatives of parliamentary democracy, at best incompetent and at worst corrupt, have only aggravated the economic crisis. The film She Had a Dream follows the journey of Ghofrane Binous, a young Tunisian woman running for the 2019 legislative elections. We sense the exasperation and disillusionment of the Tunisian population, tired of their politicians' empty promises.

She had a dream
By Raja Amari
Ghofrane Binous, 25, is a young black woman whose freedom and wild energy embody the effervescence of contemporary Tunisia. During a crucial election year for her country, she gets involved in politics. Through Ghofrane and her courage, filmmaker Raja Amari (Satin Rouge) tells the story of the many faces of a country in transformation, teetering between utopia and disillusionment.
