A Conversation with Joe Sacco
Discussion to follow in livestream on fifdh.org
"International reference of the 9th art", "pioneer", "one of the world's finest illustrators" : praise rains down on Joe Sacco. Indifferent to the honours, the man has been criss-crossing the planet for 30 years thanks to his prodigious immersive graphic investigations devoted to Palestine (Palestine, Footnotes in Gaza 1956), Bosnia (Safe Area Gorazde, The Fixer), or migrants in his native island, Malta (The Unwanted). The author mixes the languages of comics and journalism like no one else, and the power of his work is also due to the personal stories that he knows how to capture like no other, interweaving past and present. His new book Paying the Lsnd is about the Dene people of Canada in a region decimated by shale gas exploitation.
Invited by the ESBDI in Geneva, Joe Sacco will also lead a student workshop, the results of which will be presented during the FIFDH.
