A Conversation with Jonathan Coe

Panoramic writer, brilliant essayist, passionate music lover, Jonathan Coe is one of the sharpest observers of British society. Author of What A Carve Up! (1994) and The Rain Before It Falls (2007), he published The Rotters Club, a tale of teenagers in the Thatcher years, before finding them again 20 years later in The Closed Circle (2003). Coe closes this trilogy in 2019 with Middle England, a biting chronicle of the 2010's and Brexit, translated worldwide and published in French by Gallimard, as is his entire body of work. This interview is an opportunity to look back on his literary career and to question the importance of humour and satire, both as a political weapon and a literary instrument.

The event will be followed by a signing session at the Café Babel, at 19:45
