World premiere of XIMEI - In the presence of Ai Weiwei
By Andy Cohen & Gaylen Ross
This poignant and sensitive film is a portrait of Liu Ximei, a young Chinese woman who fights to defend the rights of people living with HIV in China, against all odds. Millions of Chinese people were infected in the 1990s: across the country, the government encouraged poor farmers to donate blood in exchange for compensation under catastrophic health conditions. A hidden scandal... but for how long?
