House of My Fathers
By Suba Sivakumaran
Two Sri Lankan villages, one Tamil and the other Sinhalese, are at war. When infertility strikes them both, the Gods send a message to them: a Sinhalese man and a Tamil woman will have to travel to the Forest of the Dead, from which only one will return. In the midst of this haunted place, the outcast Asoka and the mute Ahalya will confront the secrets of their past. Suba Sivakumaran's debut film tackles the memory of her country with an exceptional elegance.
