What future for the Black Lives Matter movement? Conversation with Patrisse Cullors

The acquittal of Trayvon Martin’s murderer in the summer of 2013 set social networks ablaze. The #BlackLivesMatter hashtag appeared in the wake of the event and rapidly became the banner of a movement that spread like wildfire and the influence of which has been growing ever since: it is estimated that between 15 and 26 million Americans took part in demonstrations against police violence and institutional racism across the country in 2020.

The death of George Floyd during his arrest by the police last May triggered yet another national awakening on the issue of race and the beginning of a global mobilisation against police violence and systemic racism. Black Lives Matter has become a rallying cry in the United States and around the world. Meet one of the three co-founders of this historic movement.

The conversation will be held in English with simultaneous interpretation into French.

Patrisse Cullors

Artist, educator, and popular public speaker, Patrisse Cullors is a Los Angeles native, Co-Founder and Executive Director of the Black Lives Matter Global Network since 2013. The movement has since expanded into an international organization campaigning against anti-black racism. Patrisse is also the founder of Los Angeles-based organization Dignity and Power Now. Patrisse Cullors is currently the Faculty Director at Arizona’s Prescott College of a new Social and Environmental Arts Practice program that she has developed. She has been honored with various awards and recently received recognition in TIME Magazine’s 2020 '100 Most Influential People' and ‘100 Women of the Year’.
