White Cube

By Renzo Martens

Dutch artist Renzo Martens gets workers on cocoa plantations in Lusanda, DRC, to embark on a crazy journey: create clay sculptures that are then digitised in 3D, reproduced in chocolate and exhibited in New York to be sold. The dynamics of gentrification are thus reversed, and thanks to the profits, a precarious population is empowered to buy back the land stolen by agroforestry giant Unilever.
