Building Iraq in A Post-ISIS Era
Since Mosul was retaken by Iraqi forces supported by the international coalition in 2017, many observers have announced the end of the Islamic State (Daesh) and consequently the end of the war in Iraq. However, this will remain wishful thinking as long as we do not address social and political tensions, as well as issues of memory and representation for all communities. How can Iraq be rebuilt, a country fractured both socially and politically? How can the path towards national reconciliation be achieved? What is the foundation for political reconstruction and possible peace? Today, a redesign of the social fabric must be undertaken and local, national and international actors must take responsibility for it.
The debate will be held in English and Arabic with simultaneous French and English translation.

Mossoul après la guerre

An Arte film
On 10 July , 2017, after 9 months of fighting, Mosul, Iraq's second largest city, was liberated from Daech, leaving only devastation. Who will lift Mosul up? Who will rebuild its western shore, martyred by the fighting? Who will restore the heritage destroyed by Daech? Over the course of a year, Anne Poiret followed the Iraqis' efforts to rebuild their city. Through key figures, she documented the difficulties faced by the population, the complacency of the Iraqi administration and, more broadly, the hesitations of the international community.
