Graves Without a Name
By Rithy Panh
An Arte Film
"I embarked on this trip to sit down with the dead..." For 30 years, Rithy Panh has produced a powerful body of work dedicated to the Cambodian genocide, each piece a rediscovery of cinema. After having confronted systemized murder (S21: The Khmer Rouge Death Machine) the figure of the executioner (Duch, Master of the Forges of Hell), he explored memory and loss with The Missing Picture. For the first time, Panh turns the lens directly on himself and uses religious rituals to speak with the dead. A journey through the mind, past fears and demons, that extends far beyond the history of a country.
