On the work of Ali Cherri, Lebanese artist and director
The work of the artist and director Ali Cherri explores the temporal shifts between ancient worlds and contemporary societies, whose rationale lies between the constitution of a founding origin and the myth of unlimited progress. He belongs to a generation of Lebanese artists born during the Civil War, whose practice has been strongly influenced by this context of instability. His work has been presented, among others, at the National Gallery, London; the Musée d'Art Contemporain of Lyon, France; the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum, New York; the Gwangju Biennale, South Korea. In 2022 he participated in the International Exhibition of the Venice Biennale, where he received the Silver Lion award.
