Palestine - a shared humiliation

The Zionist dream of a State for the Jews did not come to an end with the seizure of 78% of historic Palestinian territory. Since 1967, colonisation has developed significantly in the West Bank in particular, and the case of the city of Hebron is a paradigm, a real testing ground for the settlers and the Israeli military who 'protect' them. What is the price that Palestinians and Israelis alike pay in the bitter struggle for control of this city where the security policies of the Jewish State are in direct conflict with international law? Has the Israeli society grown tired of its colonisation, as Frantz Fanon said about the French settlers in Algeria? The new government of B. Netanyahu continues the 'judaization' of the territory, an act considered as patriotic by the new Organic Law (which in Israel acts as the Constitution) promulgated in the summer of 2018. Alongside Palestinian resistance, a small minority of former military and human rights activists in Israel protest against the injustice of a Zionist project that has lost its sense of limits.

The film, based mostly on Israeli archival footage and interviews with military leaders and on interviews with two local Palestinian protagonists, narrates how the town of Hebron / Al-Khalil has served as a laboratory for the Israeli occupation of the West Bank since 1967. Because of the cooptation of a small local elite, the expulsion of nationalist leaders, and a slew of military orders, aspirations for local democratic life have been entirely thwarted. Various graphic scenes, including the dramatic footage of the 1994 massacre, explain how colonization by a small religious fringe has entirely blocked Palestinian daily life in part of the city..
